I'm from Newfoundland myself, and the cruel irony is that most Screech is now made in Jamaica and merely bottled in Newfoundland. The stuff is vile to say the least, and the majority of us Newfies won't even touch it. It's something we basically feed to others as a "tradition". There's really nothing special about modern Screech as it's nothing more than rum containing 40% alcohol with a label saying Newfoundland Screech. That being said, I still get a bottle of the stuff from my father every year at Christmas.

Iceberg Vodka is definitely a far superior Newfie beverage. For a better taste of back home, try to find a case of Black Horse or Blue Star...
