"Banned" is a little extreme. The stations who've pulled the song all seem intent on putting it back on their playlists as soon as it no longer seems insensitive. It's a little like not telling dead baby jokes (which some people find hilarious) around your cousin whose infant just died.

I say, better to seem a little too PC than to have the idiots on FOX News discover NOIS right now and start an urban legend about the asshole Canadian band who wrote a song making fun of the Katrina tragedy. Because you know they would, and given how persistent the "9-11 terrorists all came through Canada" lie was, it's the sort of thing the Hip would be fending off for the next twenty years.
