Please, let's be serious. You might not agree for all songs, but you don't think World Container sounds overproduced?
The only songs that sound overproduced to me are In View and World Container. Everything else sounds fine. There's a lot of stuff going on during Pretend as well, but I think the extra layers and piano flourishes fit that song perfectly. The album is definitely slick-sounding, but it's far from being the most overproduced thing they've done. In my opinion that award still goes to Fully Completely with producer Chris Tsangerides completely sucking the life out of 12 brilliant songs (I still hate that plastic-spork-hitting-mashed-potatoes sound that he put on Johnny's drums) World Container on the other hand features a big, loud, lively sound, and the boys sound like they're really rippin' it up in the studio. There's a lot of energy, emotion and some inspired playing on this record. I like it.
I completely agree -- what some call overproduced I call fresh-sounding.
Yes, there are a few on WC that they could have toned down a little (the title track in particular), but to suggest, as I heard in another thread (staying away from there, thanks), that the tunes are tasteless and histrionic, is way over the top. But hey, it's one person's opinion, so be it.
I found Bob Rock's production, especially on Try, Rink, Luv (sic), Ocean and Family Band, gave the songs a lot more depth than they otherwise might have had.
