It's pretty lame.

It's not entirely about prior commitments. It's about trying to pad the lineup with the biggest names they can find, whether those names have any contemporary relevance or not. So you get Celine Dion, for example, and a bunch of elder statesmen, but very few new acts. Matt Mays, for example, wouldn't stand a chance of getting in there.

I'm sure some of it had to do with prior commitments, etc... and I understand they needed some big names. But if they wanted some serious Canuck star power, I'm sure they could've gotten some artists who are a little more relevant, like say Neil Young, Alanis Morrisette, or Avril Lavigne. Now personally I'm not a fan of the latter two, but let's face it, they're both huge internationally and they'd draw a big crowd. It's too bad Sarah McLachlan is already playing the Philly show, cause she'd be perfect for the gig in Barrie. As for the American acts on the bill, I think it's beyond ridiculous that Motley Crue and Deep Purple are playing. I understand that the organizers had little time to work with and that they pretty much scrambled to get this thing to happen, and it's great that they pulled it off, but I think they should've aimed a little higher and gotten somebody like Springsteen or Pearl Jam. Could you imagine the Hip, the Boss, Neil Young, and Pearl Jam at the same show? Now THAT'S a f**kin concert!

Oh well. At least we have a better lineup than the Philly show.
