How long do you have to live somewhere before you go over and introduce yourself to your neighbour? I guess tough times bring people together.

I'm in Hamilton (about an hour north-west from Buffalo) and we didn't have a snowflake fall - just lots of rain. I was living in Kingston in '98 for the Ice Storm. The conditions you're describing remind me of how we felt after the storm broke. Images of destructive beauty that will be forever etched in my mind.

The guy lives a block down, I haven't lived there very long and he just got back from Iraq.

The storm was "lake-effect" and only affected a 40 mile radius from Lake Erie eastward.
