A couple of thoughts spring to mind:

What with the whole file sharing controversy, are the record companies more concerned about losing money on new acts, or losing the lucrative catalog sales of acts that in many cases have long since stopped touring? These are the properties filesharing should hurt most.

And if so, doesn't the fact that the Beatles, for example, remain one of the most lucrative properties out there somewhat undermine their argument?
