The reason is that a Hip concert is about the music, pure and simple. The band..., the stage setting... and even the light show are all geared towards spotlighting the songs.

If anything, the CD further proves how safe and by-the-book a rock 'n' roll band The Tragically Hip really are. There's no sense of play or magic about the music, no spectacular or out-there arrangements that transcend the familiar material above their studio counterparts. Only Downie's mad-hatter musings (which are often as annoying and contrived as they are puzzling), the odd extended - not improved - track (most notably six monotonous minutes of "New Orleans Is Sinking") and the crowd noise hint that this is a snapshot of a moment in time. And not a great moment at that.

This is for The Tragically Hip, we're all about 15 bucks and 70 minutes poorer for having heard them.
