"more tragic than hip" says Lowell

fingernailsonhull Wrote:I agree with Neil (GT). Halftime shows are wastes of money. Not that The Hip weren't fantastic on Sunday, they were. But, the ridiculous nature of overblown brain-draining entertainment at halftime or what-have-you is enough to send me on a mini rant. They are unnecessary. We Westerners are becoming increasingly stupid. We need to be entertained at every minute of every day. Entertainment is okay, I love hockey. Sports are entertainment. But sports still have to do with strategy and focus. Janet Jackson does not. I don't really know where I'm going with this, which frustrates me even more. Oh well.

I would submit that at hockey games I go to, I enjoy the chance to get up, stretch my legs, check out the venue, find somebody I know, or have a word with the person I brought. I enjoy twenty calm minutes between periods, in any game at any level. I like baseball, but sometimes I find it a little tedious to have 60 seconds between innings...I like how in hockey you get commentary in between the periods. So I totally agree with your point that certian audiences feel the need to be entertained every minute...I'm not one of them.
