Back to the inevitable objectivity of Lord Brazle.... :twisted:
This thread has Americans replying and saying that people they know have never heard of the Hip and radio stations from their respective areas hardly ever play The Hip. Correct? Well, for the sake of argument, and as I said before, I know plenty of people in the true North strong and free who haven't heard of the Hip. And I know I can listen to radio stations and watch music channels for hours and hours before the Hip pop up and MuchMoreMusic only seems to play the Hip from 5 and 7 in the morning. Sometimes. So this subject begs for statistics. Is the frequency of Americans who have never heard of the Hip similar to the frequency of Canadians who have never heard of the Hip? I am not so sure... I mean, access to the Hip is generally there. Of couse, in locations where the Hip aren't promoted (i.e. small towns, far South maybe?) no one would've had heard of them but I suppose it has a little to do with how music-hungry someone is. I listen to tons of stuff, I hunt for bands I've never heard of and there are some people out there, maybe even the majority, who generally only hear the flavours-of-the-month on the radio stations and stuff. Now I have noticed a lot of Hip fans seem to be closer to the Great Lakes area... anybody here from southern California? The Great Lakes area is more of a denser population, people being drawn to water since the beginning of time, so the majority of Hip fans come out of a greater population. So maybe it's something like out of such and such number of people, such and such number of them will be Hip fans? I've almost lost what I was talking about. Watched Shakespeare In Love last night and I have the urge to write. Maybe I should write something of more substance and leave you good folks alone? The main thing I'm trying to get across is; why do some people think that the Hip are more known in Canada as opposed to the States? And if, in fact, they actually are, then why? Due to they themselves being Canadian? Or is it something Canadians can only understand? That doesn't make sense because Americans listen to them also. I don't listen to the Hip just because they're Canadian. I listen to them because I think they are the greatest band on the face of the planet and it's really bewilders me that some people don't like them as much as I do or haven't even heard of them.
