Stay is just a poor man's Bobcaygeon.

Now this I totally agree with. I've never really been a big fan of "Stay" either. I also agree with you that the drum loop does nothing to enhance Lake Fever. I still think it's a beautiful song though. It's much better live without all the overdubs and layering.

I thought Lake Fever sounded awesome stripped down live and thought it was gonna be a great tune when released. It is still a decent song but nothing like I thought it would be.

Just imagine hearing the Ballroom boot months ago and thinking how awesome it was, and then when the album was released, hearing some drum looped, poppy version of the song.

So as soon as I heard this, M@W was already tainted for me. It has a few gems, but otherwise not my cup of tea. IVL on the other hand has many jems and a couple of songs that don't do it for me such as throwing off glass and Use it Up.
