I'd suggest growing up on the banks of the Lake (Especially Odessa, Gord's hometown just outside Kingston) gives a guy lots of sea inspiration. And remember he also studied Canadian history, and enjoys Canadian poetry. Alistair McLeod's maritime poems are legendary as are the many, many links to Canada, her birth, and the sea.

Amherstview is on the lake, and Gord's neck of the woods.

Ah, but water runs through it, and you can hike from Odessa through the "bush" and straight to the lake. Trust me, I've got the poison ivy scars to prove it!
