I know there are football references in this song, but I thought I read somewhere on the Hipbase or in another forum, that Gord was inspired to write these lyrics after the Danny Heatly car accident and the death of his teammate Dan Snyder. But now I can't find where I might have gotten that idea or information.
Here are a couple of examples of the lyrics that lead me to believe this might be the case:
1. "A makeshift shrine and newly laid sod"
- Refering to Snyder's burial?
2. "I sure hope God I'm not the type to dwell
Hope I'm a fast healer; fast as Hell"
-Refering to Heatly's ability to make a comeback from this?
3. "Heaven is a better place today
Cuz of this 'F**k the world'
It's just not the same"
-Refering to Dan Snyder dying and being in Heaven now?
Can anyone confirm or deny this notion I have? Do any of you have thoughts on this? I already love this song and if this is written about that incident, then it has greater meaning for me.
