So I happened to "stumble" across a copy of this. Anyone else?
First thoughts:
Its alright... nothing special.
Incredibly strange. That comes with the territory of The Flaming Lips though
The vocals on money are stupid.
Any Colour You Like is pretty awesome
I guess its cool to hear a fresh take on it, even though its a bit blasphemous.

I have not listened to it yet.
But I love the album cover:
"We're forced to bed, but we're free to dream"

After a few more listens:
Good: Any Colour You Like
Decent: Brain Damage/Eclipse, Speak to me/Breathe, Us and them, Great Gig in the Sky, On The Run
Bad: Time
Downright putrid: Money
Seems almost lazy or rushed. The "interview" parts with Rollins seem forced and cheesy. It seems to ignore the best parts of the album. Whether or not they did this on purpose to create their own sound it focuses almost on the weaknesses of the original. Point in case is on Us and Them and Money. Us and Them seems flat and unfinished almost. It completely ignores the best part of the song by ignoring the epic energy boosts of the original song. They basically cut out the middle parts on Money and Time. On Money they use a voice box which sounds awful. Then they continue on with pretty much a single basic riff and completely ignore the sax and guitar solo. Money was a pretty average song on the original IMO and the only thing that made the song good was the sax and guitar solo. They didn't need to have a sax or even a guitar solo but maybe a "flaming lips like" equivlant. Have something change it up a bit. I don't even know what to say on Time. It's just not good until the Breathe reprise comes in. That was pretty cool.
The album also just doesn't have the flow to it. The transition between Brain Damage and Eclipse just isn't there which is a major flaw IMO. Seems like they spent maybe a week or so total on the project.
They neglect that major parts of the album. I get that they re-did the songs their own way, but they just missed the point of the album. In short, they didn't spend enough time on the album as they should of and it shows.

Am I the only person who can't stand the Flaming Lips? I just find their music incredibly annoying. Although, I'll admit it was fun watching the lead singer crowd surf inside a giant plastic bubble during their performance at Sasquatch '06. To me they just seem like more of a circus act than a band. But hey, that's just me. Different strokes for different folks.

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

I love me some Flaming Lips, however; they're pretty hit and miss. I either love what they're doing or absolutely hate it.
