A relative (and fellow Hiphead) told me he heard "Love Is A First" on a central Ohio radio station last weekend.
He was shocked of course....said he flipped to a station while it was in the middle of a verse, and though he instantly recognized it, it took him a moment to place what/who it was (since hearing TTH on the radio here is almost like finding a four-leaf clover).
I know that feeling; many years ago, I was flipping channels while driving one night here in Cincy and on a very faint frequency, I heard a fuzzy "Greasy Jungle" and about wrecked the frikin car because I knew those sweet strains were a song and artist very familiar to me. Yet it took me far longer to identify it as 'Greasy' than it ever should have -- it was the radio after all, and thus "Hip" was the furthest thing from my mind.
As a matter of fact, I've only heard TTH on the radio twice - EVER (which including our recent trip to Toronto, where we listened, but did not hear even one Hip tune on the airwaves). The first was the above accounting; the second was actually when I was on my way to Columbus -- to see the Hip on the PP tour -- and rolling into town, I flipped from the CD player to the local college radio station mere seconds before the opening beat of "Poets" pulsed into my Chevrolet Cavalier.
T'was the ultimate concert psyche-up.
