If that were Miller getting fed by Neil, I know a Buffalo player would have jumped in....any one of them, even a non-fighter.

That's a good one! Yeah, I'm sure Briere (56 PIM), Vanek (28 PIM) or Pominville (22 PIM) would have totally jumped in.

Easy statement to make when your team had their thugs on the ice.

If ever there was an indication of a bush-league hockey fan, it's when someone posts this idiotic argument.

the regular season means NOTHING. Last year Ottawa OWNED buffalo in the regular season, and lasted all of 5 games against them in the playoffs. So Ottawa has a SLIGHT edge in the season series, and they're automatically better than buffalo? Get a clue.

A 5-3 record doesn't merit the owning of Buffalo by Ottawa last year.

I think you need to read the context of a post before you respond. At least a season series is a better indicator of who is the better team than a single game, wouldn't you agree? And how many of those (still valid) playoff victories for Buffalo were won in overtime? Saying the regular season means nothing is baseless, tell that to the bottleneck of teams who scramble for points to get into the playoffs. Makes me think you know little about hockey.

[BuffaloHipFan]

You obviously don't know the Sabres, the city of Buffalo or the people of Buffalo. This team is a close mirror image to the hard working and loyal people of Buffalo. I'd put my money of any of these guys jumping in. That's how we roll around here. Look at Biron, he knew he had no chance against Emery, but he took a run at it.

You know the Sabres eh?

When I lived in SW Ontario in my teens I went to Buffalo plenty of times and saw plenty of Sabre games (since my best friend's dad was a linesman). I can honestly say that not once did I think to myself: "you know what? The way this city is and the way the people who live here are, I can totally see a finesse Sabre fighting the other team's goon."

Puh-lease.

Not only that, but the team actually mirrors the local demographics. It really is amazing. Biron, Briere, and Pominville represent the large french canadian contingent in the city. Vanek gives shout outs to his fellow Buffalo Austrians. Hecht loves celebrating Oktoberfest in the Little Bavaria part of the city. Novotny, Kotalik, and Spacek bring their hard-work ethic and loyalty from their homeland, which blends in so nicely with the Buffalo mentality. Afinogenov likes vodka, doesn't every Buffaloan? And then we got some Finns and Swedes...which also represent the people of Buffalo in some way.

Mair did apologize to the Sens room after the game (directed towards Spezza), but then almost got into it with the assistant coach.

Huh? Did he really apologize? Wow. There's no need to apologize. The players are all grown ups. I'm sure they can handle a little roughness. There's absolutely no reason for Mair to apologize IMO.

[tigerthelion]

Lindy Ruff should be ashamed of himself. Did he steal that tactic from the mid-70s Flyers' playbook? I can't believe the whiniest coach in the league (by far) would do something so bush league. Actually, I can believe it. It's Lindy Ruff!

Man, Ray Emery beat the snot out of Biron. I'm guessing Biron will be thinking twice about crossing centre ice against the Sens again.

Both Biron and Emery stated after the game that neither one of them got hit even once on the face so I wouldn't say anybody got beaten up.

[tigerthelion]

In regards to the Sabres - Sens game,

What the hell would have happened if someone took a run at a leading goal scorer/top player back in the day?? It would not have gone unanswered. Same exact thing would have happened, as it should. I cannot believe Ottawa didn't have anyone with any stones big enough to defend their goalie when he was getting fed by Peters. Any one of their players should have flown in there, but nobody did. Wow! Talk about soft. To make things worse, they didn't even score on the 5-3 and ended up losing the game!

You think if Ovechkin took a shot like that Brashear wouldn't be out there on the next shift?

Good for Buffalo for sending a message. Everyone complains about Lindy's whining but let's be honest, what coach wouldn't be pissed about losing their captain, especially with Afinogenov, Kotalik, Gaustad, Spacek, Paille, Connolly already out with injuries. I think he speaks out of frustration, I know I would be pissed. All Lindy told his players to do was "Run Em," not fight them. I guess Mair and Peters misunderstood the word "run." Oh well, they deserved it!

What a great game to watch though, aside from the fighting, some great action at both ends.

Saturday night on CBC should be interesting. I expect the Sabres to come out banging again.

Still in 1st place in the NHL! GO SABRES!!

Dude, have you ever watched Brashear play? I've seen Ovechkin get hit this year and Brashear was nowhere to be found. Brash never fights for his teammates, he's as selfish an enforcer as I've ever seen. Not a good example.

Mair did apologize to the Sens room after the game (directed towards Spezza), but then almost got into it with the assistant coach.

Actually Mair ran into him in the hall and apologized for something he said on the ice - he only said he regretted saying it.

Actually, I'm doing just fine without your condescending reading suggestions, thanks. Saying the season series is a better gauge than a single game is pretty meaningless because it still doesn't really answer any questions. The better team makes it through the PLAYOFFS. Ottawa handled buffalo in the regular season last year, and what did it get them? nothing. And by the way, Einstein, add up the goals for and against in buffalo vs ottawa last year. In 8 games, Ottawa outscored Buffalo 36-16. Ottawa dominated the season series last year, everyone but you seems to know this. And another thing - since you're trying to disparage buffalo's playoff victory over ottawa by pointing out that 3 of the 4 wins were in OT, I'd like to point out that you failed to mention that 2 of the sabres 3 regular season wins against ottawa went to OT: oh, but Ottawa didn't dominate the regular season vs buffalo at all, did they? Face it, ottawa CLEARLY dominated buffalo in the regular season, and then got knocked the fuck out in 5 by A BETTER TEAM.

And since apparently I have to spell everything out for you, let me rephrase: the regular season means nothing compared to the postseason. Is that easier for you to understand? Once the postseason starts, who beat whom in the regular season means absolutely nothing, as evidenced by the countless examples of teams getting thrashed by teams they owned in the regular season. Obviously the regular season is meaningful in determining who is in the playoffs, where they're seeded, etc but beyond that it doesnt mean anything once it's over. Is that more clear for you? Seriously, I didnt think this extent of an explanation was neccesary, but then again, according to you, I am the one who doesn't know hockey. Anyone who bothers to hang their hat on the outcome of a season series or really anything to do with the regular season as a determining factor in who the best team is, (YOU) is the one who doesn't know shit about hockey or any other sport.

If i remember correctly, one game alone ottawa beat buffalo 10-4. Ottawa dominated the season series last year, everyone but you seems to know this.

I actually think I need to keep the condescending tone, sorry. I still think you do not know much about hockey, especially since your little spiel was more about defending your first baseless post than it was about clarifying things for me.

So you added the clause, "the regular season is nothing when compared to the postseason." Good for you, you can pat yourself on the back for that one. I agree, but it's too bad my original statement was talking about how the end of the regular season is important for the teams struggling to make the playoffs. So with regard to all the rest you wrote about the regular season not determining who wins in the playoffs...kudos to you again, if my original post was referring to such a situation, then maybe I'd care more about what you wrote.

Saying who wins a season series in the regular season is a better gauge of the better team than a single game, and it is not meaningless. You can call it statistics, the laws of probability, whatever you want. The fact is that rankings and ratings are based around whom beats whom. If team A beats team B 5 times, and loses 3 times, then we can logically conclude that team A was better than team B. You could make the judgment based on one game, but of course the estimate gets better with the greater amount of games played. It really isn't difficult buddy.

Actually, the point at which i jumped in to this was when you said that since ottawa has earned more points out of the season series against buffalo than buffalo has, ottawa must be a better team. I NEVER said anything about one game being a good gauge for anything, dumbfuck. But if you really think that the regular season series is THE way to determine which team is better, than you are a blithering retard. Just to refresh your memory, in 2005-2006 Ottawa outscored buffalo 36-16 in head to head contests, winning 5 of 8 (2 of buffalo's 3 wins were in extra time - one in OT, one in SO). BUT IN THE PLAYOFFS, WHEN IT ACTUALLY MATTERS, Buffalo knocked the worthless underachieving sens out in 5. THAT is a real gauge - who can win WHEN IT ACTUALLY MATTERS. The fact that you fail to see this is hilarious to me.

Right, and then I went on (in my last post) to explain why Ottawa is a better team. If you are an analyst and you have to make a prediction about which team is going to win in a playoff match, you will go with the team who won the season series. I don't give a shit about your playoff folk theories, the entire time I was talking about the regular season. Since it is still February, I can't tell you which team I think is a better team in the playoffs. You see how that works? You see how I took the information available to me about the regular season thus far, and made a logical judgment? Now if you don't understand that, then it is my turn to say what I find hilarious. When the playoffs arrive, and if the two teams meet, and if Buffalo wins, then I'll change my mind and say that Buffalo is the better team "in the playoffs when it actually matters," as you say. Until then, this is a different season than last.
