The Never-Ending Present - Michael Barclay
#16

I liked Have Not Been the Same by Barclay, and it looks like this approach will be similar -- thoughts and viewpoints of those who surrounded, influenced, or were influenced by the band may actually be more interesting than insight the band can offer. I often find the person doing the creating can have a hard time articulating the why or the how, and their too humble to see who their making an influence.

That said, I'd like a second book at that really gets into the technical specifics around the band -- why they chose different producers, studios, what was arranged in the studio and how, musical and lyrical inspirations...though I think the appeal of that book would be much, much narrower.

Now I have to go post on the FB group about all the cheap Hip CDs I found at WalMart.

Two days in and I haven't been able to put this down. Barclay's writing style is tremendously engaging and the depth of his reporting is impressive. This book is the documentary about the band that we've been sorely lacking.

Hahaha. The Walmart cds, secret santas, tribute bands, unauthorized books, random one line song quotes, all while crying of course! Pretty much sums up the group. Get friendship right...love your Hip family...

Looking forward to reading this book!

Hey look at this great bootleg artwork that I won at an auction. A dozen replies about how everyone wins the auction. Two days later, hey look at this great bootleg artwork I won at an auction.

I'll pass on getting an elf. I sure anyone here saw these on the group.

On the topic of the book, it is definitely on my must buy list.

Wow. I ordered the book the other day and picked it up tonight. I thought it was a pre-order until the release date.

If i was still on the FB fan site i’d go and gloat! But, I’m not. Couldn’t stand that place a long time ago.

You got the book already? I thought it wasn't out until next month. If any of you who got the book already could do me a solid and record yourself reading it in its entirety tonight aloud (preferably in a soothing, unhurried tone) then email me the file so I can listen to it on my long commute to work tomorrow, that'd great.

They would only lecture you about the book being unauthorized and that it's not Barclay's story to tell.

I'm one of the last five people on earth not on FB and this discussion about the Hip's fan page is re-affirming my holdout on Mark Zuckerberg. However, I'm counting on all you good folks on here that are also on the FB page to let me know when Road Apples goes on sale at Wal-Mart. Thanking you in advance.

:thumb: Also, not to be too picky, but I'd like it read in a British-accented, whisky soaked baritone with all "your"s substituted with "yer"s.

potsie, no one under 30 is on Facebook anyway. You're actually ahead of your time, not behind it! :jump
