Voting Lake Fever for this round. It's a great song, but unfortunately it's buried under a layer of window dressing on the studio version. The stripped down live version they played pre-album release was always so much better.

Lake Fever is overrated, but I voted 'Stay.' Any song with the line 'you were a great you' in it doesn't deserve the palm. (Sure, Lake Fever has that 'coital fury' clunker, but at least that line isn't *cheesy,* man). M@W blows away both of these tracks anyway, as far as I'm concerned.

I like Lake Fever quite a bit, great sound, great lyrics and was the first time where Paul really stretched his voice compared to normal backing vocals, which really adds to it for me too.

Musically, yes, this Lake Fever is better. However, what it's missing is my favourite part of the whole song which is Paul's verse:

Want to be a nobody without peer
Want to be a thought that's never done
Want to shake your faith in human nature
Want to break the hearts of everyone

This verse is absent in the January 2000 version. I would be interested to hear the story of how the addition of this verse, and the decision to have Paul sing it, transpired in the studio. I have to assume that Downie wrote it and simply gave Paul the steering wheel. It is difficult to conceive that Downie tried it out himself in studio and couldn't get the right feel for it.
