This whole RS cover thing could get nasty. Not because of the religious right, but because about twleve years ago a well-known photographer conceived and shot the same pose for a RS cover...with Howard Stern as the subject.

RS blew a nut and refused to publish it. Too controversial, Wenner said at the time. As I was turning off Sirius to go into my office this morning, Stern was planning to call the photographer and raise the question of copyright infringement.

Can't wait to see how it shakes out.

I don't want to get all heavy religious on ya... but isn't it interesting that it is accepted by large portions of our society to pull off stunts like this that insult or demean Christianity? Do you think Kanye would have the cojones to pose like Muhammad or some other prophet/icon of Islam? Uh, no, because he'd get fatwas and death threats coming out the ying-yang. Yet it's OK somehow to insult and demean Christians.

I guess I'll never understand why this is.
