The Almost Hip in Surrey
#1

Hey gang, we had The Almost Hip play in a pub where I live in Surrey, BC.

Here is a sample of the video I shot.

You will need the DivX codec to watch.

Does anybody else find it funny watching other people trying to play The Hip...I've been to a bunch of "tribute" shows....Comfortably Numb and Kashmir come to mind and i rather enjoyed watching those shows. But for whatever reason I have a hard time watching other people try to play TTH...including a good friend of mine who plays in a Hip tribute band. They are all really talented, including this band, but something just isn't right...

btw- nice video work BigA

The thing is, Floyd and Zep are no longer intact. The weird thing about Hip cover bands is that THE HIP ARE STILL TOGETHER. It makes me feel oogie that so many bands are making money off of a band that is still together, touring, and making albums.
I like the odd tribute act. I would love to see Rain (Beatles). However, you will probably never see me at a Hip cover gig. Give me the real thing, because I know they will come to our town eventually. Plus, no one can come close to The Hip. They are, the new us Wink

I've always found it odd that these tribute bands play "Hip Halloween" every day of the week and feel content with it. Wouldn't musical ambition drive you to break out of the tribute act and write your own stuff? I know Jeremy Hoyle does his own stuff, I wonder how many of these acts tour exclusively as Hip impersonators?
