24 bit WAV??
#1

Hey guys...been lurking but havent had enough time to get into anything really...

Sorry to post just to mooch off the high quality tech know-how around here, but I have downloaded a concert torrent in 24 bit WAV format and I can't figure out how to convert them to CD-burnable 16 bit. Two things:

1) I would have asked at the source but they specifically said if you don't know what to do with them, don't waste your time downloading. Now I DO know what to do with them, because I know enough about it to know they were intended to be burned to DVD, and I COULD do that if I wanted. Bt I do want them on CD.

2) I did google...and then I googled some more...and googled some more. (And I also searched to find out if it had been brought up here before). I found tons of info about 24 bit WAV, and lots of pages about what happens when you convert from 24 to 16, but I havent been able to find anything about a program that can actually do it.

Any suggestions?? I would really appreciate it...thanks so much! Happy easter everyone!!!

On my Mac using Quicktime Pro it appears that I can do it. I'm not sure if it works the same on PCs.

If you send me one of the tracks I'll try to convert it and send it back to you.

Are you trying to convert an Umphrees McGee show?
Just curious because I went to download one and it had it in big type DO NOT...UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.
If so - small world. Cool band.

Not quite small enough for that coincidence to happen, I guess! LOL No, it's not a McGee show. But its probably a standard thing put on every 24 bit torrent becayse they're so sick of people asking about it (which is kinda stupid considering I have searchesd and I cant find anything out!!)

Thanks a lot Chris, I will send it your way. If it works let me know what you did and I'll get Quicktime myself!!

I actually just got Quicktime and it wont work for me...I try to import it and it says invalid media data in movie. But obviously it's a WAV file not a movie, so I dont know why it's saying that...

Anyway I do appreciate you seeing what you can do!! Thanks!!

Quicktime Pro ($$) is different from Quicktime (Free); that may be your problem.

I downloaded a couple of 24 bit tracks when you first posted, and they opened fine and I was able to export them to 16 bit AIF files which can be burned to CD.

IL Y A DU SUCCES!!!

I tried to do this in CEP before anything else, but I didn't even know what I was looking for. I went and tried again looking for some of the more refined terms I found in the Quicktime help and I figured out how to do it!!! Once you know what to look for it's kinda easy!

So thank you to you both, I couldn't have figured out how to do it in CEP without having read the Quicktime help files. Thanks Chris and...uh...well, shame on me, I don't know the second soothsayer's name!! HAHA.

We're both "Chris" so you've got it covered.

I'm glad we could help. :thumb:
