Last night’s set by Gord Downie and the Country of Miracles saw a crowd of young people standing in front of the stage, eager for Downie to begin his set.

Then they were told to sit down. And they did so politely, with but a few grumbles. "

Friday night, the skies opened up with 10 minutes to go in Gord Downie’s headlining performance, dispersing the audience of 2,000, leaving about 500 diehard fans who really didn’t care if they were wet.

The rain let up while Downie and his band, The Country of Miracles, were off stage, then the rain returned during the encore.

“This gig tonight was really good for us,” Downie said immediately after the performance. “(It’s) important for us as a band too. People are sitting and listening and we could hear each other and we had a great time.”
