GN'R Canadian dates
#31

1) Not true...they are mixing in 6 new songs....3 have been around since the '02 tour, while the other 3 are the demos that leaked a few months back.

2) And it most certainly isn't a BS excuse.....Lots of bands don't play most of their forthcoming records on tour until that record is out...case in point the Hip....all summer they only played a couple of tracks and when the record was released, they played it all. Chinese Democracy is easily one of the most anticipated records in rock history...so why would you give it all away before it's released?

Anyone interested in attending the Calgary show that needs some tickets let me know.

My buddy's got 4 tickets that he can't use anymore and needs to get rid of. I'll get the details for anyone who's intersted.

do yourself a favour and check out the songwriting credits to gnr's songs...axl's name appears way, way more than anyone else's.
slash had a "sound" and a "presence," sure, but axl contributed way, way more to the band's songs than anyone else. (and, atop this, axl has a "sound" and a "presence" too.)

and he was the sole writer of songs like november rain and estranged...so any he-only-did-lyrics argument don't fly.

I think pretty much any album that has taken 9 years and $13 million to record could easily be considered "one of the most anticipated records in rock history", regardless of who it's from. Hell, I'm no GnR fan but I'd LOVE to know why the hell it took so long. I'm guessing the answer is going to be: "because Axl is a jackass".

for most of the 90's, he didn't write, sing or do much of anything musically. This is documented in a rolling stone article from back then. It's been mostly since 1999 or so...and he had to recontruct one of the biggest bands of all time....that doesn't happen overnight.

And Axl did write more than anyone else on Appetite and the Illusions...he is more than capable of pulling this off. Slash himself was quoted as saying Axl's a genius and that the record will be amazing. He's choosing to do it on his terms and release it when it's ready.

Are you sure about that? I haven't noticed much buzz for the album. Maybe I'm out of the loop. It'll be interesting to see record sales for the first week the album is released.

Looks like there's still no release date for Chinese Democracy:

"Universal Music Canada said this week: "We have no indication that a Guns N' Roses record will be released this year."

Wow, what a surprise. I'll bet we'll see another new Hip album before Axl and his Gn'R cover band ever put out theirs. What a gong show.

From the GNR website:

Quote:"It takes approximately eight weeks for an album to hit the shelves once it has been turned in to the record company. For whatever reasons, it appears that it may have been mistakenly inferred by management that this time period could be condensed to three weeks. With that being said, this is not a promise, a lie or a guarantee, but we do wish to announce a tentative release date of March 6. This is the first time we have done this publicly for this album."

I like that he didn't add the year - so he could mean March 6, 2012.

Reminds me of a buddy who lost a wager and as such, had to run around the block naked on Wednesday. When Wednesday rolled around, he said: I didn't say which Wednesday.

Thanks for reminding me that Axl wrote some of the GNR songs I hated the most. Although I admit I'm sort of fascinated by the whole Chinese Democracy peekaboo game.
