Gordon D. was quoted, when "Live Between Us" came out, that it was not a Greatest Hits album... that GH Albums signified that a band no longer had intenetions of making "hits" - that they were at the backend of their "music making days".

As he has stated countless times since Hipeponymous, he wants the band to play 'till' their end'. So it would seem to me that he, and they, have changed their opinion and have all intentions of putting out their best music next.

Also, I do belive that a "best of"/"greatest hits" was required with the label they are with. I think that based on the fact that they had to do it, they went all out and gave somthing fans would truly appreciate, instead of a simple two disc greatest hits compilation. In every interview the boys have tried to make it clear that this is the "midpoint" of their career.
I don't think these guys are ready to retire in Florida quite yet.

I remember hearing Rob Baker say on, I think it was Canada A.M., that "He see's David Bowie in his 60's giving the best performances of his life." He said they will keep playing until the fans stop coming, or something like that.

That was GD's way of saying, at the time that LBU came out, that they still were going to move ahead and do new things. And now that they have a greatest-hits package out, and are in the hall of fame, he's finding new ways to say it.
They're going to keep putting out new music as long as they want to. Which, based on recent projects, will probably be a long time.

And, although this might be splitting hairs, the discs are called "Yer Favourites" not "Greatest Hits." It's a small thing, but you take it where you can get it.

I don't think their GH album signifies a beginning of the end!! Or so I hope it doesn't...what would I do with OUT HIP CONCERTS! I am anxious now just waiting for their next album so I they will come back here to the Maritimes!! :mrgreen:

An friend of mine was the merchandising manager for The Hip for many years when he worked for MCA/Universal and is fairly good friends with the boys as well. I asked him what he thought about the whole "Greatest Hits= Fading Out" thing and he said their contract stipulates at least eight more albums after IBE or something awesome like that.
So, rest easy Hip Fans. They're here for another good while.

Yeah good call on the "yer favourites"
I for one don't expect the next material to come from the band to be their "best". I expect whatever to be released, and for people to still complain it isn't as good as their "old stuff". However, In Violet Light is my favourite album along with Road Apples. I welcome many more releases. Fuck I could go for another Gordie release moreso.

I think the fact they're recording a new studio album kind of puts an end to this discussion. Here's to the hope it's only the first in a long line of new albums.
