the hip and Jake Gold part ways
#1

I heard this news last night on 102.1 in Toronto. Anybody else have some info? What do you think the implications for the future will be for the band?

Jake was probably annoyed that they've given up trying to be anything other than a cult Canadian album band churning out the greatest hits in concert.

I mentioned this rumor to my brother this evening and he informed me that he was reading the news lines that appear on Much More Music during the early morning rotation.

He says that he saw a quote stating that Jake had left.

What does this mean for the bands direction??

Being from Vancouver and hearing Bruce Allen sunday nights on CFox this is interesting, because Allen has always stated that Jake Gold was the reason they never made it "Big" in America.

Dannya,
You are absolutley right.
We owe it all to Jake.

'Thanks Jake, for being a crappy manger and letting us keep The Hip all to ourselves."

I read an article in the Vancouver Province today about this, and it said the Hip have been looking at Nettwerk(spelling?).....but you can't believe everything from that newspaper....

The firing is a true story... I met Johnny Fay one night at the Scherzo here in Kingston (BOOYEAH!), at the Grand Theft Bus show (wild band!), I asked if they were doing anything new these days and he said that they're going to write in the summer, no plans for touring this year at all, and that they had just fired their manager. Then he actually said "Yeah, so I don't know how long we're going to be a band..." I was like, "Man! Don't say that!" It was small talk after that, besides I rate Grand Theft Bus up there with The Hip, I love this band.

Should be interesting to see what comes out of this...

I hate when I hear stuff like that! The Hip can't disband. It would be like changing the Canadian flag. Uggh!

I was pretty sure that they still had three records left on their current deal with Universal?

This information was keeping me and my fellow hipsters excited about the fact they would be recording and touring for a while yet.

Am I wrong?

Please god, let me be right.
