biggest concert the hip ever played
#16

is anyone else still kinda surprised that they didn't play at SARSstock? they should've had a set instead of The Guess Who or Timberlake,..imagine that: The Hip, followed by: RUSH, followed by AC/DC, followed by: THE STONES!!!!!! not to take anything away from a great show, but the hip would've made it soooooooo much better.

According to the site, the were only 53500 tickets sold off for the 1991 version. Yes you will need a translator to read the site since most of it is in dutch. Under the english information, the site only hold a maximum of 60, 000 people

What is the largest audience The Hip have played to?
The Hip played to 200,000+ people at the Parkpop Festival in Holland in 1992 and the Woodstock Festival in Rome, NY in 1999. The band’s largest Canadian audience was 80,000, at the War Child Benefit concert at The Forks, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on September 16th, 2000.

What is the smallest audience The Hip have played to?
Believe it or not, the smallest audience The Hip have played to was 5 at Jakes' in Bloomington, Indiana in 1989. The Hip says that 0 attendance has been recorded prior to 1989.

Park Pop? Why have people been calling it Pink Pop all this time? That's even what the bootleg is called.

I thought it was too funny when I heard that interview where, I think it's Gord S, says "there arent too many bands who can honestly say they have played for absolutely NOBODY...not one person." I woulda loved to have been there that night, imagine a "private" Hip concert!

ParkPop and PinkPop are two different events that both take place in The Netherlands. Perhaps one of our Dutch members can elaborate more?

ParkPop - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.parkpop.nl">http://www.parkpop.nl</a><!-- m -->
• Takes place in The City of The Hague
• I have never seen/heard a boot from this show.
• ParkPop is the largest music festival inthe world... and it's free.

PinkPop - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.pinkpop.nl">http://www.pinkpop.nl</a><!-- m -->
• Takes place in Landgraaf
• A bootleg video/audio of The Hip's performance at this event in 1991 is in circulation.

haymaker11 Wrote:this isn't the biggest crowd they ever played too, but one of them indeed:

EdenMusicFest, a three day festival in July 1996 at Mosport Raceway in Clarington, Ont, had close to 65000 paid tickets, and thousands more that jumped the fence and found "alternative" ways in. There were several media outlets that reported 80 000 unconfirmed in attendance for the HIP, who had the main headliner spotlight, the last band on the saturday night.

a great festival it was, aside from the riots that engulfed the racetrack on the final day after party-goers were told that the "suprise act" would not be playing.

Was a great show indeed!

The Cure opened Friday evening and finished off with Bush. Saturday evening featured the band Live and of course the Hip.

The 1996 Edenfest Show may have been the largest concert the Tragically Hip entertained up to that date? For sure though Woodstock and the Winnepeg War Child Concerts have been larger.

Here's hopping for a 2005 Young and Hip tour ...
