Elliot Smith- From a Basement on the Hill...his latest, and unfortunately his LAST album to be released. His chest cavity was no match for the kitchen knife he plunged into it...dumbass!!

Anyways, he has left us with a great album and a glimpse into his convoluted morose mind...track 7, King's Crossing, is brilliant.

Smile by Brian Wilson is worth picking up, but I don't know if you'd consider that new or old.

I've read some pretty good reviews of that Smile album. I have no clue what it must sound like. As for Elliot Smith I was alittle worried that I might have my toe on the trigger by the end of his c.d. My cousin bought it though and says it has some real gems on it.

Sorry, I just find the stuff i here from him really overproduced. Give the Drive BY Truckers a listen, you might just put the thornley away. i say might because DBT isn't for everyone.

I haven't picked up Southern Rock Opera Yet, can't find it and when I do see it it is 38 bucks, I may have to bite the bullet and get it.
I think Decoration Day and Dirty South are equals.

The new Finn Brothers (Crowded House and Split Ends fame) is excellent. Not really a bad song on it.

I have to admit I downloaded it. Only one store here has it and it's as expensive as two single CDs - both at maximum price. I wasn't prepared to spend over $45 including taxes for it...but now that I have it, I'm not going to stop searching for a cheap copy. I'll be in the US later this year and I'll look around then.

I can't say ANY album is worth $45 (really, when you think about it) but this one's so good I'll pay for it when I find it, even though I've had the chance to nab it for free.

I second this recommendation.

I don't know what your musical tastes are, but if you're up for something different and very good, grab some early Genesis CDs. They should be fairly inexpensive and well worth listening to. Go for albums from around '71 to '74.

I didn't think the new recordings on SMiLE compared to the original bootleg studio versions. I'm glad I bought it, because there are some real gems, but I find some of the remakes a little limp.

Really? I had someone else tell me to avoid all the bootleg material from the "smile" sessions. Do you think I should try some of it out? I really really liked "smile". Also I had never heard this stuff before so...


And for the thread, new And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead comes out tomorrow. Im excited for that.
