. Last year George Stromboloupolous was doing a speaking tour of college campuses and my buddy ended up having a great conversation with him during his Calgary stop. From what he told me, George's favorite pastime is making mix CDs of quality music and just leaving them in random public places like malls and bus stops, etc... According to George, this is the only way that people will listen to good music these days, because Muchmusic and commercial radio certainly aren't providing it. And I gotta say, I totally agree with him.

i actually do this as well,and encourage my listeners to do the same..not sure if the people of kamloops actually do it, but i do...i like to think that somebody out there is listening to a really cool cd i made right now

I made it a habit to watch The New Music when he was the host, and he mentioned this idea on numerous occasions. The guys on 102.1 in the morning have talked about his mixes on air as well.

I disagree. I happen to like some of the stuff he champions on his punk show. Sure, some of it isn't that great, but the worst bands in history? Not even close. I've talked to at least three people who have had one-on-one conversations with the man, and from what I can gather the guy has pretty damn good taste in music. He's into all kinds of stuff, not just punk. I'd certainly trust his taste over the dipshits who run Muchmusic any day of the week.

There was this thing on cbc.ca where somewhat famous people listed the cd they would want to take with them to a deserted island and George picked a Rheo's cd. I'm not sure if I like the Rheo's too much but I thought it was an interesting choice for George and showed that he does have an ecclectic range of musical tastes. He likes the Hip at least a little bit so his musical tastes can't be all bad! haha

Apparently he's a fan of the Headstones too, or at least he helped them out in some way. They specifically thanked him in the linter notes to their last record. Interesting that he likes the Rheos. I didn't know about that one.

Yep, him liking the Rheo's is kind of a surprise but that's the album he picked, I think "Whale Music". I think Sook Yin Lee and a few other Canadian media types picked cd's also but that was a few years ago so the article probably isn't on the internet anymore.

But I'm getting seriously sick of that word, "talent." Singing isn't a "talent." It's a skill that can be learned. You can have the right physical attributes to be a remarkable singer, but you still have to learn to sing.
