Is "Get Back Again" their best ever?
#31

Bobby told me that same story back in 1995 but as I recall, they played it thinking they were on tape but the engineer hadn't turned the recorder on ..thinking it was still a warm-up...

Having been a Hip fan since 1994, I am embarrased to admit hearing every story and comment about "Get Back Again" but being permanantly state-side (and American)....I'm embarrased to admit..

I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS SONG!

(its like a friggin myth to me!)

can anyone shoot me a mp3 or something as I don't do shn's...

PLEEEASE!

For anyone looking for this song, save this linked MP3 to your hard drive. This is taken from the Swinging On A Star recording.

on the evening with the hip tour we had floor seats at the acc and brought this huge sign that said

"GET BACK AGAIN"......we only lifted it up every once in a while between songs, gord defenitly saw it but it was a no go, worth a try.

I keep trying to imagine that too but I just can't. I think it sounds perfect with just the two of them and the guitar. It just *fits* the song. I almost think a full band version would take away from the song itself. I dunno.... hard to explain

Billy Wrote:For any Blind Melon fans, this will probably ring true for you.

Get Back Again reminds me a lot of Soul One by Blind Melon. Both are real early band songs that never got released, both have a soft, accoustic sound to them, and both evoke a lot of imagery and emotion. Soul One finally did get released on the album of unreleased material that was put out after Shannon Hoon died. When I first heard it I could not believe how amazing a song it was and why hadn't they ever released it earlier...much the same reaction when I first heard Get Back Again in 96ish.

Great parallel, so true.

Is the link that Chris posted the Misty Moon version? It's the version that I have, but I'm still wondering who played lead guitar if it was just the two of them? Was it Gord Downie on the rhythm and Paul on lead? I didn't think Gord Downie played guitar that long ago...

Wow... Thanks for posting that... I've now gone through 3 listens, two while trying to learn to play it... What an awesome song!

The chords (or at least a couple of shots at them) are on the tabs section at hipfans.com. Easy to play, more proof that good songs are often simple.

As for who's playing, I think Gord just sings on the Swinging On a Star version, and Murray McLaughlan and Sarah Craig are playing with Paul.
