Most Common Song Theme
#1

What do you guys think is the most common thing or theme that Gordie sings about? There are obviously the couple of hockey tunes and we know Gordie has a thing for the ocean/water/boats and nude/"bare-breasted women"... but according to the lyrics, what do you think is the most common theme or what is on Gordie's mind the most?

The thing on Gord's mind the most is the word F**K.

I think he also hears the shhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound all the time, I mean, everywhere he goes.

Now hear this! THE most common Gordon Downie theme is PREDATION. For "locked in the Trunk' to 'Gus,' the image of the predator, either defanged (like that wonderful destroyer limping into the bay) or about to wreak havoc (as in the blood-curdling dorsal fin closing in and you cannot swim)...it's everywhere. :rambo:

No, it's "tragedy." There is always some sorta of bitter irony in his songs. From strippers coughing in the middle of their act to being one of the survivors of the Titanic... there's always some tragic circumstances. Tragedy is a theme almost all writers tell of. Some songs may take place after a tragedy or before but there's tragedy nonetheless...

It always amazes me how many subtle hints their are to Canadian history.

Sometimes, it's just words like "Cartier" or "Cordoroy Road," but if you read any Desmond Morton or Pierre Berton you'll stop more than a few times and say: Wow, that sounds like a Hip lyric.

Gord's university days are still with him.
