I think people should go to prisons if they really want to see living things in cages. At least they'll be making some convicts less loneley...
But serisouly, what's the point of saving a species if it's bred in a zoo? It'll never survive in the wild anyway.

Kill them maybe? Better off dead? Freedom or death? I'd pick death rather than lead a life of servitude and if animals are able to become depressed by a lack of freedom (like humans can) maybe they'd make the same choice? Animals have no concept of their own death. It's something they just don't think about. We humans unfortunately have been trying to grasp the concept of death for awhile... Earlier I talked of a jailbreak but on paper, it looks ridiculous. What can be done? Sit in front of zoos and angrily yell at people who take their kids to the zoos merely to teach them about animals? How many clever slogans on picket signs will convice an entire world of the negative effects we have and the wrongdoings of exploitation? There are people who think we are smart enough to control nature only because nature's predictable... I can predict our future by lookin to the past... i no longer have hope in the human race and i haven't for awhile... I may not be the first to say it but i'll gladly repeat it, "We are f**ked."

But apparently they gave him a jacuzzi and cheered him up.
I can't find anything "recent" that would inspire Gord to write the song so maybe he wrote it awhile back and they never got to doing it?
