I voted for Escape, but it was tough because these are easily the three strongest tracks on the record.

For those struggling with this vote, I've put together a handy 10 point guide to help you with your decision.

Should Poets Stay or Go?

You...
1. like "woahs!", "yeahs!", and "woo's" in your Hip songs: We have a "Yeah" for ya, right after "Why do you even bother?" Poets must stay.
2. love beautiful codas in the tradition of Nautical and Giftshop: Poets has one full minute of beauty tacked on at the end. Poets must stay.
3. are a fan of having creatures like bears, sharks, and afterlife worms make appearances in your Hip songs: True, Poets has none, but have you seen the video? Hundreds of cats! Poets must stay.
4. prefer songs that have amazing guitar riffs over songs that don't. Poets must stay.
5. are a more cerebral individual and prefer social commentary in your music: We've got a shout out to the Indecency in Public/Gwen Jacobs appeal here. Poets must stay.
6. are a less cerebral individual who subscribes to Playboy, and not for the articles: Well, we've got lawns being cut by bare breasted woman here. Poets must stay.
7. enjoy songs with drug references: Stretching things a bit, Poets has "Himalayas of the the mind" and "long grasses over time". If that works for you, Poets must stay.
8. care about the environment: "Lava flowing in Superfarmer's direction" is a commentary on global warming. Poets must stay.
9. are a fan of "Ten" and thus like songs with short one word titles: Poets has the same number of letters as "Black" and "Alive", so if you like those... Poets must stay.
10. prefer songs that have a great groove over songs that don't. Poets must stay.

Fifth and sixth on the bill, but number three in my heart, Escape you are the weakest link. Goodbye.

Is anyone else confused when 3 songs are eliminated in a round, then 2, then only 1? Am I the only voter that assumed poets was gone last round setting the final as escape vs emperor?

Or the only voter that finds it peculiar escape may be ousted now? After it had
0 votes round 1
1 vote (poets had 2) round 2
3 votes (poets had 5) round 3
12 votes/19% round 4 where poets had 18 votes/29%

Escape had the second fewest votes (By 1!) Last round and now looks headed for home?

Poets had second most votes (By 6 or 10%) last round but may have fewest votes by the time this round is done :?

This kid don't get it.

I stole the idea for this from the Pearl Jam forums and am following a similar structure to what was done there.

The 3, 2, 1 song removal roughly goes like this:

3 songs removed until 3 songs would leave us with fewer than six songs - then we go to 2. My assumption here is that the weakest tracks on an album will be fairly well agreed upon and we work through these quickly. However, if one song is the weakest by far (with other songs "winning" voting totals over others but not getting 10%) then we might only eliminate 1 or 2.

2 songs removed after the switch from 3 until we have 4 songs remaining. Again, assuming most will agree on the two weakest songs left to get to the final 4.

Final 4 - one song removed each round until there is one left. I assume here there can be lots of differing opinions; so pick one, whichever song "wins" gets eliminated but then we will move on to what's left. So, in the last round, Bobcaygeon was the clear choice but then those votes could go to any of the remaining three to find the winner.

Shane, I like the format and the rules have been clearly laid out at the beginning of each poll. I suspect people are voting without reading, eager and primed to eliminate whichever song offends them deeply from the remaining list Smile

If Escape escapes you then you deserve to ask what the poets are doing ... nothing but speaking to it's splintered legions.

"we've only got three hundred feet to go ..."

Absolutely ridiculous that Poets is losing at this point.
