I have seen the band well over 100 times ( my wife says I have a problem!) but the recent Burlington show was the first time that I have seen them where I knew exactly what song was coming next and I have to say that it spoiled something for me. There was always that sense of anticipation before the first notes of the next song were played and then you recognized it. That is gone for the middle section of the show on this tour. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the band and Gord's vocals sounded great (no screaming!!) but this element kind of took something away from the fun. What do you guys think about the album tour concept??

Completely agree, but I might feel different if it was DFN that they were playing instead..

I did enjoy the Burlington show, but overall I'd prefer a more "standard" show where you're not sure what's coming next. That said, for me knowing I'll heard Pigeon Camera and Eldorado is a not a bad trade off.

also brought a friend who knew nothing about the hip
he is still in shock about gord , he has never seen a grown man move like that

I don't mind the format (especially if they do a DFN tour), but wish they'd switch up the order a bit.

Feel the exact same, and had the same feeling at the Toronto show. I posted as much. It took a lot away from what I love about Hip shows.

I saw OLP do this twice a few years ago, Spiritual Machines in full and Clumsy in full, they played both albums in full then came back for a mixed set, it was fun but like everyone said, predictable. The best part I suppose is hearing songs you wouldn't otherwise get to hear, or played live for the first time.

That format is fine, but I'd rather they mix it up or instead play the album in full but change it up by playing some songs acoustic perhaps or adding solos, other instruments..etc.. just to liven it up and keep people engaged.

Either way its all good.

I'll let you know in a couple weeks. Being that The Hip's setlists have been so prefictable the past five years, I don't mind going into a show with the guarantee of seeing Looking for a Place to Happen, Lionized and The Wherewithal all for the first time in my fifteen shows. I'm more concerned though about seeing the band play well as opposed to going through the motions and the past few years (the 2011 Winnipeg show being the low point for me).

I enjoyed it, as Rye said above it's nice to know you are going to hear a lot of songs you don't normally get to hear. I wouldn't want this format all the time, but it was a nice change of pace and the band seemed to enjoy playing it live.

what if they played the album in its entirety but throughout the set? would that change things for you guys?

I would rather not have full albums played in a row, much rather take a gamble and let them play what they want. it's gotta be draining and boring playing these songs all in a row to people over and over and over.....

Even with a set full album in order being played, this tour is WAYYY more diverse then summer 2011.

I think the concept has been welcomed by many who wanted to see the band dig deeper in the library. Playing the full album does that. Sprinkle in some of the other gems they've pulled out and I hope its a win for the fans and for the band. For me, I always like the surprise of what's coming next at a concert - especially for band that changes their setlist regularly. So while a part of me would probably like them to split the album concept up during the course of the show, overall I can't complain what we, as fans, are going to receive.
