I am so used to hearing Canadian place names in hip songs, I thought that "It's minus 11, inside my kettle" in Depression Suite, was "It's minus 11, In Sagmakettow" and I had to google to see if such a place existed in Canada....

Another Depression Suite Lyric Analysis:
Go to be a man of the boom
To Florida without the Ocean

This may be looking into things way too deeply, however if this is what Downie intended, it is sheer brilliance:

The lyric speaks of migrating to a new place - a place where others are flocking, and things are happening in a big way.
My suggestion is that Florida, may not be a literal place, but rather a person...

Richard Florida wrote a popular book entitled `The Rise of the Creative Class`. His theory focused on the importance of cities to fund creative projects such as cultural enhancement, and artistic means to attract budding entrepreneurs to spark the local economy into a boom town. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Florida

We know that Gord is capable of developing complex lyrics with multiple meanings. I`m not positive that this is one of them, however, it certainly would be clever.

Thoughts...
