The Hip Club (THC)

A intimate show for THC card holders only. No ticket needed, just show up at the door with your card. :jump :jump :jump and here is the guy who thru his card out :nooooo

That was part of the initital purpose of the cards. Once you registered your THC card/account, you could enter a drawing for tickets to see several "secret" intimate kick-off shows (rehearsals) for the IVL tour.

I, of course, did not win any, because I never "win" any drawings, lotteries, or selections.....

The intertubes might have been a baby back in the "Hen house" days, but the CD was (at the time) an awesome enhanced CD with all sorts of cyber chotchkies. Alas, they don't work anymore...

Actually the enhanced CD's came out years after the Henhouse days, I think 2004.
But TheHip were one of the first artists to really appreciate what the internet could do for their fans. Henhouse for example had the free screen saver: http://web.archive.org/web/199812012157 ... nsaver.htm
And I am not sure if it was TATH or LBU where they would release one song description or sample per week or something.
Also you had to go to the site to find out about the secret surprise shows, setlists, pics, merch, etc...
I think they first started doing it with Another Roadside Attraction with a tour "blog" and whatnot.

They also streamed a live show from the HOB in LA way back in 1998 (or 97) - who the hell even knew what a webcast was back then. Does anyone still have that show lying around somewhere - I have been trying to locate it for awhile.

And I still remember, way back, having to call 1-800-95-thehip every day just to see if there were tour updates.
And waiting for my snail mail newsletter. And the humor that came with every newsletter and email:

Check your local indie music shop and they'll probably have some. I haven't seen too many large chains in the U.S. that carry any Hip, although, when I was in Hawaii last winter I spotted copies of World Container and Yer Favourites at the local Borders store on the Island of Kauai. They were labelled as "imports" and were $25 each.

This is why Das Hips should set up a Twitter account to update from the road during the tour ahead. Could be entertaining. Wintersleep is doing it.

I was just at HMV yesterday looking for music which was a mistake to begin with, seems music has fallen down the pecking order behind video games, dvd's, tv dvd's and britney spears posters...

anyway the cheap racks were awash with Hip albums, every album for $6 bucks, i think WC was 10 but i got myself a brand new UTH, my old one has seen better days.

gotta love cheap Hip cd's, just one of the perks of living in Canada i guess, cant wait for that HST!! :censored

Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”

Yea, HMV sucks these days. It's incredibly sad what's become of good old fashioned brick & mortar music stores. If I want to find quality albums in Calgary, I almost always end up going to a store downtown called Megatunes, which is the last remaining indie music shop in the city. They always seem to have what I'm looking for, even if I have to spend about $4 more than I'd pay at HMV or Best Buy. The store has been there for as long as I can remember, and I'll happily spend my money there just to help keep the place afloat.

Speaking of great music stores, my sister and I are flying down to San Francisco for a few days in June to see the Hip at the Fillmore. While I'm there, I plan on dropping a ridiculous amount of cash at Amoeba Records on Haight Street. That place is easily the greatest music store I've ever been in. It's a huge store and the place is just wall-to-wall CDs, vinyl, and gig posters. Last time I was there I found the goalie mask poster from the Hip's Fillmore show in 1999 for only $20. When I visited their other location on Sunset Strip in L.A. last summer, my friends and I must have spent a good 2 hours in there just browsing and hanging out. Easy Street Records in Seattle is another good one.
