Match-up #48 - Long Time Running Vs. Sherpa

While Long Time Running is an awesome, awesome tune, it's simply not on the same level as Sherpa. I've gushed enough about it before, but the repetitive structure, beat, and melody that parallels the course of the staling friendship described in the lyrics is rarely matched, IMO, by anything else in the Hip's (or anyone else's, for that matter) catalogue. The unexpected change in musical structure to mimic the turning point of the relationship is aural bliss. One of Downie’s finest, understated vocal performances and a prime example of the band’s knack for instrumental dynamics, precise composition, and rich texture.

Agreed :thumb: Side b of the Henhouse album is one of my favorite listens and very underated IMO

full credit to sherpa for all the reasons stated above... i had started to drift away from long time running, it was always just a solid classic in my book but it was losing a little lustre ... UNTIL i saw this performance of it in oshawa on the last tour. the feeling and emotion gord puts behind every line really made me understand why this is so utterly timeless. i don't know who filmed it, but they captured it perfectly.
