Are you hesitant to buy due to quality, or you think you'll be supporting Canadian job loss, or you think you'll be supporting underpaid wages ("sweat-shops")?

I actually listened to an incredibly interesting lecture by Dr. Gwynne Dyer (he's Canadian... and if you read a paper, you've probably heard of him). Anyways, it was phenomenal and really opened my eyes towards globalization. I know I probably won't be convincing you in this one post about going ahead and buying the product, but he had three main points/pros about the issues of sweatshops in China particularly(and you never really hear the pros, I hadn't either) .
1) They are helpful for the economy, even moreso in third world countries. With tariffs and taxes, "sweat-shops" helped push Taiwain ahead, and they are no longer a third world country.
2) In China, manufacturing facilities are less like sweatshops, and more like factories. The truly poverished facilities you see on documentary's are from third world countries such as French Polynesia and Fiji. China's economy is expected to be bigger than the USA in five years, therefore making it the new super-power.
3) Workers at Chinese factories, although not making the same wages they would if they were in Canada, are making average money for their economy. Also, China isn't capitalist, therefore balancing the average income overall, but they are not exactly communist either, so there is better paying jobs for them.
If you ask me, after listening to Dr. Dyer, I would go ahead and buy clothes if they were from China. I would watch out before buying clothing from third-world countries though.
Also, if some people reading this don't want to buy from overseas because they would rather support jobs in North America, Dr. Dyer also had some good points about that topic aswell. I'll type them out if anybody wants to hear them, but I'm too lazy right now. Anyways...

China = Good
Take it or leave it, if you still don't want to but the clothing, that's cool. You probably can eventually find stuff made in Canada for the games if you look hard enough.

cool, thanks for your post. just looking for other opinions, so thanks for your input. i appreciate it. an interesting read about china, too.
this was the "official" canadian gear made in conjunction with the COC...you know, the stuff they put out for each olympics...so i won't be looking for anything else. this stuff just caught my eye, but i would rather it be made in canada.
