THE BIG HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER - WIN A HIP LITHOGRAPH POSTER!!
#1

Seasons Greetings and Happy Holidays to all Hipsters around the world!

Hopefully the holidays are treating everyone well and keeping everyone safe. We are very proud to announce the long-awaited donation B&P of The Tragically Hip's In The Flesh Theatre Extravaganza 2002 British Columbia concert series, now available on CDR and DVD (Victoria/Vancouver/Vernon). Before I go any further, I must give many, many thanks to first to Mark Sloggett for all of his manhours and hard work converting these shows from the masters, as well as Peter Padjen for his vast patience and organizing/distributing copies for Hipsters, and coordinating all the donations. All proceeds are going to Camp Trilium, a cancer foundation The Hip have supported for many years. A big thanks also goes out to Rory Young for his great patience and dilligence, and Jamie Innes for his immediate understanding.

I have chosen to only release these shows through Peter by donation for a few reasons. First, I have always been impressed by The Hip's unwavering support for Camp Trilium, donating items for auction and performing benefit concerts. Their support for the Camp absolutely floors me because not many bands these days continue to do things like that, and they go out of their way almost anytime, anyplace for such charities. Secondly, I have a huge soft spot for cancer charities and have always donated to them. As well, I have invested alot of money and time going to Hip shows and taping them. This B&P is primarily a fundraiser for those charities. If the money I've spent on The Hip can somehow be used as an investment for a mass donation to Camp Trilium, that will be the greatest Christmas gift I could ever be a part of. Lastly, Hip fans are among music's best, as is well documented on various message boards and Hip communities, and I am positive that us fans are just as willing to help fund cancer research as The Hip are.

The shows that will be available on CDR and DVD only through this fundrasier are Victoria BC (September 15 & 16, 2002), Vancouver BC (September 19 & 20, 2002) and Vernon BC (September 21, 2002). I was lucky enough to attend all 5 of these concerts and with much help from Mark, I was able to videotape all the shows. With The Hip going back to a theatre setting and experiencing 5 straight shows, I cannot say enough good things about these concerts. Victoria was absolutely amazing, as evidenced by my reviews at Rory's website. I'm pretty sure these were the smallest shows on the tour (capacity each night was just over 1400) and it was The Hip's return to BC's capital, 7 years removed from the Day For Night tour. I was in Row 5 the first night, and front row for the second night, and the footage is awesome! I was able to sit down for the second show and the camera stays so still and the shots I got are so good I still get goosebumps thinking about that night and how close I was to The Hip. The fans were alot louder the second night, and the setlist for that night was by far one of the best of the tour. It was one of the only double-encores of the tour and I still feel the same way I felt immediately after the show; that night definitely ranks in my Top 5 Hip shows ever witnessed out of the 17 I've seen. The Vancouver shows were also just as amazing. The fans were primed and ready to go, and seeing them in a venue like the Queen Elizabeth Theatre was absolute heaven, much better than seeing them at the PNE Coliseum or GM Place. For the first show I was taping from Row 5, and the second show Row 7. Unfortunately, I missed 5 songs from the second Vancouver show because my battery crapped out on me, but maybe one day in the future that show might be available complete from a different source. For now though, it's available here as a 17 song set, and will most likely be the only version of that show available for quite awhile. The Vancouver setlists include some gems and were definitely worth attending, as anyone who was at those shows will tell you. As for the Vernon show, it was the band's first time ever playing Vernon and they played a hockey rink which is home to the local BCHL team, the Vernon Vipers. Capacity for the show was under 2800, so the theatre setting and atmosphere was still in play. I was again in Row 5 and if it wasn't for the drunken bastards in the crowd rocking back and forth the whole show, it would have been alot better, but all the same it was another great Hip night, and everything turned out awesome.

I truly hope many of you will take the time to donate to this worthy cause. I've just noticed as of Dec 25 that someone has leaked out the first Victoria show, but I still hope everyone will participate in our donation B&P and help out Camp Trilium. Mark and Peter have put a TON of work into this project and Peter has some great prizes up for grabs (and leaking shows is NOT cool at all - this is the reason some people don't ever release shows they've taped).

Sincerely
Tony The Lost Barilko

Hey Folks,
Hope that everyone is having a great holiday season... I am unfortunately stuck at work right now, but things are looking up Smile first I'd like to thank everyone for their patience with all the DVDs/B&Ps etc.. I will be working extremely hard the next week to get all the DVDs owed to people out asap... GREAT EUROPE 2002 shows... as many of you know I had a fire in my place a couple of weeks ago and that didn't really help the situation either..

anyway we're finally back with a HUGE HIP FUNDRAISER! I think this will be the biggest and by far the best one yet!! it'll involve DVDs for the first time ever along with some great shows that have yet to be released to most people... plus you'll be able to win some FANTASTIC prizes like a HIP LITHOGRAPH POSTER SIGNED BY BOBBY BAKER.. this is one of only 300 made..they sold out within a day, and I'm sure it's worth like $500 now if not more.. plus there's a hip t-shirt and some other great prizes like CDS and DVDS.. the way to win is to collect points.. the more points you have the better chance you have at winning.. right now there will be a max of 5000 pts alloted for these prizes.. depending on how you help etc, you'll be awarded some points... sometimes I will offer points up to the first person who gets a HIP question right, and others you'll have to help out Camp T or our other fundraisers by donating $ for DVDs/CDs..

first part:

Vancouver 2002 DVD + CDs SHOW 1 & 2
Victoria 2002 DVD + CDs SHOW 1 & 2
Vernon 2002 DVD + CD

total of 5 DVDS and 9 cds!

blank dvds cost quite a bit at the beginning $4.50 for the first batch I bought, but thanks to Rob Bertrand we managed to get some for a lot cheaper! $1.60 or so...

here's the first fundraising part:
ANY 1 show on DVD and CD: $14 US or $20 CDN + 20 pts
ANY 2 shows on DVD and CD: $24 USD or $35 CDN + 35 pts
ANY 3 shows on DVD and CD: $34 USD or $50 CDN + 50 pts
ALL 5 shows on DVD and CD: $50 USD or $75 CDN + 100 pts (limited space)

plus other shows/cds/dvds will be offered soon as well..

for those in the DVD club, you'll be getting most of the EURO 2002 shows soon. please be patient and you'll be rewarded greatly!!!!! due to Tony's request, the above dvds will be offered only as a big B&P. only in a few certain cases will these shows be allowed to be part of the DVD club (to the ones I specifically promised the shows)

donations can be sent via PAYPAL to: thehip1@hotmail.com or snail mail.. if sending from the US you'll have to send cash since my bank charges me fees, if in Canada you can send me a cheque or cash whichever you'd prefer..

again these shows are DVDS and not VCDs.

I think we'll be getting a lot for camp trillium with this one..

again it's a first come first served basis.. this is one you don't want to miss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

email me with any questions..
take care and happy holidays!
