To me, it's always been about a daughter: growing up, facing fears, and looking to her father to explain it all, make it all right. The father is anxious himself about being capable of such a lofty responsibilty.
A friend of mine who recently lost her dad, read the lyrics, without ever hearing the song, and broke down in tears.
Perhaps other daughters can relate.
