Cd collections and storage
#1

I was just wondering how some of you guys out there deal with storing and organizing large cd collections. Especially those of you with a lot of hip shows on cd.

I've always struggled with the best way to organize my cds. At the moment I have all of my regular cds alphabatized and my Burnt (hip shows and mixed cd's) in a seperate drawer. I find it hard to keep track of the burnt cds because of the various case sizes or lack of cases that they're in. So I find that I don't really listen to a lot of them because I forget about them. Outta site outta mind kind of thing.

Anyways, I was just curious about the size of some of your collections and more so how you store them and organize them. Personaly I think that I have around 360 store bought cds and about 100 burnt cds in my collection right now. I built 2 end-tables last year with 2 drawers in each of them to store my cds. Prior to that I was moving around a lot and I had all of my cds stored in various boxes. The drawer thing works a lot better.

Just curious,

I have all my Hip shows on a cd rack behind me. Each show in a Cd Case with a cover. All my DMB shows are in cd folders. 4 of them.

I need 2 Kingston Tickets, please help.

most of my new hip bootleg cd's i keep in caselogic type folders, i print out the setlist and cut it to fit in the sleeve and then write with a sharpie on the cd what show it is, so when i have the cd in i have the playlist at hand. I used to print off the covers for the cases and make my own but i found it was taking too much time and money and personnaly i prefer the new way I do it. As for bought cd's i have about 300 and they are in racks but i am always running out of room.

Right now all my Hip shows, about 160 of them, are archived in shn or mp3 format on cdr's I also have covers for about 90% of them. I also keep a spreadsheet listing each show I have and if there are any issues with them, such as bad or missing tracks. When I get some time, I want to print them out and use cases and rip them to audio cd's. I will probably store them separately from my collection. As for my store bought CD's -thats another story - Trying to find a home for 2000 CD's in a 500 square foot apartment is a nightmare. I have a 6 foot by 3 foot rack that holds 1000. Another rack sits on top with about 150, 3-150 cd spindles stacked on top of one another, and about 6 small flip trays that hold about 20 each. ALL ALPHABETIZED! Its to the point now where I am out of room, I have a growing stack of CD's sitting on top of my desk. My ultimate goal is to custom build my own "in-wall" rack. But that is waaayyy down the road. As a side note, check out this site:

Download the program catraxx it is a 30 day trial $39.00 to buy. Hands down it is the best, most complete music organizing software out there. It is a must for people with large collections. To list its features would take page after page. As an example of how deep this program goes, you can assign what instument(s) people play and from what years were they in the band! With a very small learning curve it is so simple to use!

Cheers!

Thanks for the link! I downloaded the demo and put in the max 50 cds right away. I can't believ how fast the cds load into the database. :o I just finished registering it to get the full version.

Confusedhock: Wow, must've taken some time to organize 2000 cds. Let alone aquire them. It'll be some time before my collection grows that large.

Once again, thanks for the link. It looks like a super program, although the cost in the Great White North comes in around $64.00.
