I totally agree with kim, the whole album is an absolute gem, but after seeing them play every song live at the mod club, Nashville, and are we family stood out for me for some reason. I just can't wait to see them again at wasaga beach!! :thumb:

It's interesting to read what people are making of the new album and what songs they're diggin'.

I gotta say, I am loving this album the same as I did when Phantom Power was released. I immediately fell in love with that one, and the exact same has happened here. It is safe to say there isn't a weak song on the entire album. I've given it about a dozen listens and the word that best sums it up for me is spectacular.

I was at the "Whiskey" show in Calgary a bit ago and what a treat it was to hear songs for the very first time. That was my 17th Hip show and it was the first where I had never heard so many songs. Without a doubt the show stopper was "Are We Family". It is in the same vein as "Titanic Terrarium" or "Flamenco"...simply beautiful. Other highlights live are "Copenhagen", "Heaven", "Nashville", "You're Everywhere", "Josephine" and of course "Summer's Killing Us".

It feels good to be so pumped up about my favorite band again!

Edit: I just realized they didn't play "Copenhagen". I guess I am loving it so much and took to it so quickly that I just assumed it was played.

Good lord, no. I suppose the chord progression is somewhat similar, but the rhythm and basic melody are totally different.

I loved Up to Here, Road Apples, and Fully Completely immediately upon hearing them.

I initially liked Day for Night, but it took a minute to fall in love with it.

Same goes for Trouble at the Henhouse.

Upon first hearing Phantom Power, I was a little wary, but quickly progressed past 'like' to 'love' in only a few more spins.

And same goes for Music @ Work.

I actually had an abject distaste for In Violet Light the first time through, progressed to a state of ambivalence after a handful of spins, and eventually was able to look favorably upon the record thanks to cuts like "The Darkest One", "Leave", "Dire Wolf", and "Dark Canuck"; I still find the rest of its contents to be pretty weak.

I simply hated everything except "Gus" the first time I listened to In Between Evolution, but kept a wide-open mind, acknowledging the growing tendency of new Hip material to require time for "growth". After a handful of spins, I hated it more. Hoping that even more exposure in different atmospheres would help me come around to this release, I have managed to listen to it a total of...oh...I'd say sixteen or eighteen times, maybe - and still don't like it at all, really.

I fear I may never warm up to this one, folks, and it pains me to say that Das Hips, at long last, may have disappointed me.

After two weeks I cannot get enough of this album. I think it is
absolutely great. I didn't have nearly the same reaction to IVL.
Hope they play close to here so I can here the new songs live...

I've only just received my copy of IBE, Amazon.co.uk being the tardy bastards they are, and the one song that sticks out for me as a new obsession is 'You're Everywhere'. I don't seem to be getting 'Gus' the same way everyone else is, strangely. I also really like 'If New Orleans Is Beat' and 'Are We Family?'

Mind you, I've only listened to it twice now.
