Washed up band, bad seats...going in with very low expectations. I'm a fan of them up to and including ...And Justice For All and I also like the Garage Inc. album with all the covers on it.
At least they're going to play Blackend (they've opened with it on every show of the tour so far).
Anyone else seen Metallica here? I'm going because it's a night out, and I haven't seen a big arena show in a while (same reason I'm going to see Aerosmith on Friday).

Washed up or no... if they do "Master of Puppets" and "For Whom the Bell Tolls" live, it'll be well worth it.

It turned out to be a pretty cool show. Even though they claim to do different sets every night, 75% of the set is the same from night to night...but I've been spoiled by Pearl Jam when it comes to setlists.
Even though Metallica is not my favourite band, I can see now why some people like them so much...very intense crowd/show. It just sucks for bands like Metallica and The Stones whose fans have no interest in hearing new material...it's almost like watching a cover band just play old hits if that makes any sense.

I saw this concert too, it was awesome (even though my friends ended up getting the worst possible seats imaginable). The opening act by Godsmack was very good too, the drummer face-off was great when Godsmack's drummer played side-by-side with their lead singer in almost a duel of percussions - it was a treat to witness.
After a little slow period of setting up the stage for metallica (it took a little over an hour for the stagemen to transform it) it got underway with a slew of old classics like Fuel, Puppets, and Sanitarium. Lots of cool pyro took place throughout the concert (Godsmack even got to play with some of their toys). In the last few minutes of their performance they kept coming back for more from the screaming crowd for encore after encore.
In the end, a very satisfying concert -- just wish we had better seats!

I had bad seats too. Right in the corner, second row in the upper deck. The sound seemed to get lost up there.

We had the top row of the farthest corner on the upper deck. The only way it could have been worse is if I ended up loosing rock-sissors-paper for the end seat. It was still a fun time though, not doubt about it. Could have used more beer to compensate for the seats of course!

I saw them in Toronto for Summer Sanitarium last summer and am going again on October 10th in Buffalo where they'll be playing with Godsmack. I still think they are far from washed up. They put on the best metal concert of anybody, by far! The fact that they break out the old stuff and play for over 2 hours makes it so worth the 55$ for a ticket.

I changed my opinion of "washed up" after I saw Metallica, they were really good live! Aerosmith was kind of what I expected...at least it was somewhat of a stripped down show, but Steven Tyler kind of kills it with his strutting around stage.
Metallica kicked ass though...it's just too bad they have to rely on nostaligic setlists.
