Summer's Killing Us
#1

It's just sing sing sing all day!

This is really a great little rocker from our favourite boys. It remains one of my favourites off of In Between Evolution, and they've been known to still play it live every now and again.
Its quick, catchy, and raw as hell on the album. Johnny shines here, peaking through several layers of Hip brilliance.
It's track #2 on IBE for a reason, and track #2 on my dream setlist (because dream setlists have to have great flow)... a great follow up to New Orleans is Sinking to open a show I'd say!

Some cool info too on the track over at the Museum

Anybody else into this one as much as I am?

On the studio version the "whoo" after the first breakdown is one of my favourite Hip moments on record.

Never liked this song. The lyrics are great, but I can't stand the melody and the annoying way in which Gord sings it. However, I do agree that Johnny is a beast in that video.

I agree. This is one of the songs on IBE that could've benefited with a little "production police". It's a cool little tune but the melody line and lyrics are not highlighted the way they should be. Some "tweaking" of the melody lines could've made the song friendlier.
Maybe editing some of the lyrical content would've made this tune better too. Just my opinion.

YEP....Johnny Faye KILLS this tune live.....makes up for any of the above mentioned.... :thumb:

The song is structurally a mess, the vocals blow out at the end, the whole thing is a gigantic disaster waiting to collapse upon itself.

I dig it!!!

Sad that so many fans at the time simply could not relate to this kind of demented construction. And I agree - the "praiiiizz-uh-ez' followed by the 'whooo!!!' is AWESOME. That was the moment when I knew that this was going be a sweaty, live-off-the-floor record. Great stuff.
