Organ in Chicago
#1

I was just listening to the Grant Park "Taste of Chicago" bootleg and I'm amazed to hear what sounds like a Hammond B3 organ in every song. It sounds AWESOME!! Just WICKED! The flourishes here and there, the underlying tones...I think it's the best addition I've ever heard. Not too loud, not too overwhelming, but a perfect complement!

So does anybody know the story behind this? Who's doing organ and why? And was this the only show ever to have it?! I am thrilled the boot is one of the best quality because this is a show not to be missed!! If anybody doesn't have this, trade for it!!! You won't be disappointed!!! (if the exclamation mark police come looking, tell them you haven't seen me)

Not sure on the date of you bootleg, but it would be from a show that chris brown played organ and kate fenner sang back up, from the AEW era.

That's right...the organ really reminds me of Chris, especially the wah-wah organ in NOIS. What awesome accompaniment. But I haven't heard this on any other boots...and I don't remember hearing it on that tour in Halifax. Maybe it's just not apparent??

And don't you agree that it's fabulous, schmantabulous, zip-zoop-zabulous?! (to quote mr. burns)

you don't remember hearing it because on most M@W boots, Chris Brown's contribution isn't audible, except for the quieter parts of certain songs, like Long Time Running and Gift Shop. But Chris and Kate were onstage with the Hip throughout the summer, before The Evening With tour actually began (when they had no opener and played two sets). I think the show you're referring to was early july 2000, possibly the 4th of July. I haven't heard it myself, but it sounds like a good one!

p.s. IMO the best show from the Evening With tour would be in Buffalo, 12.20.00. What an awesome show!!!

Thanks for the contribution...and the clarification. Funny, I totally don't remember Chris onstage in Halifax, but he must have been because Kate was there. Any idea about other shows in which you can hear Chris' organ?

Too bad the Buffalo show doesn't have a great bootleg...

Actually, that's a big part of why Buffalo 12.20.00 is my favorite Evening With show - because of the phenomenal quality of the bootleg!

The version on the hundredth meridian FTP is unfortunately riddled with flaws, but a good man in Western NY (Tonawanda, I believe) hooked me up with a killer copy awhile back.

Great versions of Every Time You Go, Last Of The Unplucked Gems, Twist My Arm, Toronto #4, Daredevil, The Luxury, and the all-time GREATEST instrumental version of Hiccups.
