I'm surprised there's no thread for this album. I picked it up on a whim a couple of months ago and hadn't listened to it much until recently. It is VERY good.

The Trews are one of my favourite bands! They are no doubt one of the hardest working bands in the business. Colin's voice is incredible, especially if you check out their acoustic album and John-Angus is an extremely talented guitarist :thumb:
Hope and Ruin, is by far their best album to date. It has a wide range sounds ranging from anthemic rockers ("People of The Deer") to acoustic ballads ("You gotta Let Me In" and "Dreaming Man")...I, however disagree with the choice of choosing "The World I Know" as their 2nd single off the album. "I'll Find Someone Who Will" is the strongest song off the album with clever lyrics and a catchy chorus.
Why no love for these guys?

I just recently got into these guys from listening and watching the video for Highway of Heros & their version of Thugs and then I came across the live acoustic album at HMV for only $5 so I had to grab it and I have to say I'm blown away by it. It is a fantastic recording from start to finish, especially Locked Doors, my personal favourite. So then I decided to grab Hope & Ruin and it is a good album but to be honest I expected little more from it. It isn't what I expected but still a good listn nonetheless.
For anyone who hasn't seen this video needs to watch it.....

absolutely LOVE the trews. everything about them
just the 2 words combined, "hope and ruin" make such a wonderful pairing. brilliant, imo. it's a great song/cd as well
they just finished an almost 2year acoustic tour and released a dvd(their 1st) from that tour, recorded at the glenn gould. if you don't own(or have watched) that dvd then i'd say u are biased. the thing about that dvd is that their songs worked equally as well as acoustic numbers as they do full blown out ROCK versions. love it all.
dvd is called friends and total strangers
great band that deserves more+...also they opened up my ears to a bunch of other great cdn music. gordie johnson has played with and produced them before and that guy has played and produced great cds with my heros(warren haynes, joel plaskett, included!!)
oh...new trews was recorded at the hip's bathouse studio and produced by um ...yup gord sinclair.
i understand if u personally don't like the songs but they definitely deserve more KUDOS 8)

I like em too, hope and ruin is a cool song...
I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!
