Fireworks quoted in HNIC opening
#1

Anyone catch the opening last night for Hockey Night in Canada?
It was a hockey poetry piece with quotes from different songs with lyrical references to the game cut to visuals of Sundin, Jagr, Heatley and Ovechkin.
It was really well done.

"We all squeezed the stick and we all pulled the trigger" was one of them.

The clips of the players - amazing.
The lyric quotes - lame.

I dunno, I always think it sounds silly when people try to quote lyrics dramatically. Just one of those things...

Ron Maclean is obviously a fan and will drop Hip lyric references occasionally too. He interviewed Gord Downie once and sort of overdid it (video was posted here a while ago.)

I met Ron Maclean at one of the 2002 Hummingbird shows... and I think it's fair to say he's much more than a casual fan.

I was trying to find an appropriate thread to post this, and this was about the best match.

I was watching Citynews sports last night. Kathryn Humpreys was showing clips from the Memorial Cup game. She was showing clips of the goalie (Anderson I think), making all the saves in the third period and said, "he simply slammed the door, fully and completely".

I don't think that's the first time I've heard her reference a Hip lyric in her sportscast.

Nice. I wonder if her and Johnny laughed about it when she got home from work???

Haha I always use the term 'Fully and Completely'. It just sounds rad!

I remember a few seasons ago they used the song 'Fight' in a HNIC opening video.
