I was thinking the same thing...

I recently went to the the Massey Hall show on Friday night and I think they have done nothing but improved... Everyone in the band has improved and overall have become a "tighter" live band.

Friday night was the 25th time I have seen them live and it was impressive (honestly)

No kidding. If I disliked a band as much as you seem to dislike the Hip, I certainly wouldn't be hanging out on their message board or paying money to see them live. So why do you bother? Personally (and "honestly"), I think the Hip are a better band today than they've ever been. Judging by the reviews from Hipbasers and critics alike, the guys are playing some incredible shows right now, and everybody seems to be enjoying the hell out of them. The Youtube clips I've seen are freakin' amazing, and all these killer reviews and setlist updates have gotten me ridiculously stoked for the two San Francisco shows I'm seeing in June.

This is certainly a great reference point for info on the band. But, it is hardly an objective forum. These guys could sing Anne Murray songs and that would be ok. The bottom line is that the voice of fans does make it back to the band and I think they are hardly accountable when it comes to setlists. If going to see the Hip is all about what they have done the last five years then I think it is understandable for long-term fans to be pissed about that.

I found Gord Downie's comments in the radio interview posted somewhere on this site interesting -- to paraphrase, he was not excited by what Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell did 20 years ago, he wanted to know what they're doing now. I'm the same when it comes to most bands I listen to and choose to go see live -- I want to hear the new stuff, what's the band interested in playing now, what's inspiring them, and sure, a few classics as well thrown into the mix. I think seeinh any band should be abou what their doing now -- once a band has stopped evolving and they're playing the Casino and festival circuit, then it's all about the hits.

I haven't seen the boys since the suprise show at Lee's Palace, pretty sure that was to support IVL, basically because I had lost interest in their live show after 23 shows( And I stood in the Rain the whole day for that lee's show and froze my ass off whiched really pissed me off) I also felt that IBE and World Container were pretty week efforts.
I didn't plan on going to these shows until I heard about the evening with set up and the accoustic sets, on top of that the best album they have put out in a very long time made me get a seat for tonights show.

Seeing the clips on youtube etc. and the set lists have made me totally excited again about seeing the band live.

i agree

as an old fan, it's ALL about the new stuff to me. i'm not holding onto any past gold nuggets that aren't played live now.

Oh, how they were a hurtin'! I only held a small camera yet I found myself using old techniques I would use with my DSLR when I had to use heavy glass for an extended period of time.

I must say my work at the beginning of the night was a lot less shaky than the stuff at the end! I don't know how you guys do it for an entire show, night after night, without a mono-pod!
