So, anyone making the trip? Any suggestions of a inexpensive flea bag near the venue/MCI Centre? Good place for a post show bender?
This is the most random, stupid, crazy idea I've had in a while, and it looks like a go. Hit the Canucks/Caps game (7 pm start) then head over to the venue ( which apparently is appx 6 minutes away).

Hmmmmm, lets see. The area around the Verizon Center (formerly the MCI Center) is definitely a high rent district now. Lots of very expensive hotels in that area - Grand Hyatt, Renaissance, Monaco (a very posh boutique hotel), JW Marriott, places like that. There is a Courtyard on F Street across from the Spy Museum, a couple of blocks away. There is a hostel on 11th Street close to the Convention Center. Its about a 15 min walk from the Verizon Center. I think there's a Red Roof Inn somewhere nearby. You're better of staying in the Verizon Center/Chinatown area as there really isn't much up near the 930 Club - its not in the best part of town. I'd allow at least 15 mins to travel from Verizon to the 930 Club on a Friday night, as there will be lots of people around there especially with a game going on.

In DC you will get what you pay for. Understand DC is one of the worse cities in the country. If I was staying the night i think i would drive out to a suburb and stay. Try Mongomery county or Anne Arundel. You could probably find a safe/cheap place near the BWI Airport. One more thing to remember is that will be the weekend of the marines marathon in DC, so that will add demand to the hotels. I live about 25 minutes from DC so if you need any help let me know.

I traveled from Detroit to see The Hip at the 9:30 Club on the 2004 tour. This is a great small club to see The Hip up close. I met gentoo and brian1175 through the Hipbase and we met at the show. I stayed at the Holiday Inn (Central?). It was a 10 minute taxi ride to the venue. I had my own vehicle, but I didn't want to drink and drive. The taxi was a good choice.
I would agree that you do not want to stay at a hotel near the venue. Before and after the show, stay near the club. Drive or take a taxi, do not walk! The club is not in a good area. I don't like to bad mouth other cities, but there are neighborhoods in Detroit I wouldn't drive through either. Just have fun and be safe.

Thanks for the tips. Looks like we're getting stupider as the days go on, and will be forgoing the Friday hockey in favour of either the Boston/Philly game (and maybe more Hip on Saturday) or the Toronto/Rangers game at MSG.
Definetly up for some pre-swailing with fans too. More to plan closer to the time.

When you figure out where your staying and what time your coming in, let us know. We should be able to figure out a place to meet.
Last year we went to a small whole in the wall bar across the street. Maybe if we get enough fans we can take over the joint.

We were toying with the idea of seeing the Weakers in Pittsburgh or even the Go Team in NYC. Saturday is still really up in the air for us.
We found a Super 8 that was in our price bracket and didn't seem like it doubled as a dangerous crack den, but the safer, more family orrientated kind. Taking over a hole in the wall could be some nice clean fun.

Hey guys, flying into bwi on the wednesday, staying in fairfax va. thursday going up to blacksburg for the game, but i am looking for a group of people to meet up with before the show, as i am staying with my family, and not really the concert going types! so is anyone going to have room for a torontonian in there group???

Im not even sure what our plan is. I have friends coming down for the weekend that are not going to the concert but want to go out that night. If I figure out what we are doing i will PM you.
