The Official "YOU NEED TO HEAR THIS" Thread
#1

After being introduced to some new bands by reading other peoples reviews in other threads. I thought it would be a cool idea to have a thread dedicated to either "new" bands that are on the verge, or maybe some bands that you dont think are as widely known as they should be.

I'm sure in different parts of the world there are hundreds of bands that could be listed in all sorts of music genres, so maybe if we set it up like this...

1.Name of Band
2.Name of CD we should be checking out
3.Genre/similar bands comparable

Some bands may get lots of airplay in your neck of the woods, but maybe not in others, so go easy if you dont think this band is "NEW". I'm sure there is someone out there who hasnt heard of em..

I'll start.....

1.The Fratellis
2.Costello Music
3.Pop rock, kind of...known for the new iPod commercial

1. Tokyo Police Club
2. A Lesson In Crime
3. indie rock

Good idea!

1. Phonograph
2. Self titled
3. Alternative Country-Rock, Alternative Pop/ Rock, Indie Rock (think Wilco).

Read about these guys in Paste magazine and once I read the comparison to Wilco (my 2nd favourite band) I ordered the CD. It arrived early this week and I really like it.

And for something a little different:

1. Darondo
2. Let My People Go
3. Soul/R&B - think of a bad-ass Al Green.

Downloaded this from eMusic last night and absolutely love it already.

Saw them open for I Mother Earth a few years ago, they sounded great so I picked their album and loved it. Its your basic by the numbers rock, but some of the songs are very catchy and its one of those albums that you can listen to straight through and its all good. Aftershock their second album came out last year, its not as good as the first imo, but its got some great tracks too, both worth a listen.

Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”
