$2000 for a Mac - that's old thinking. You can get a Mac for $700. And iMac can be had for about $1000.
But I know what you mean about Mac users shaking their heads at Windows users... but it is justified in most cases. Ease of use, security, design, you name it and Apple have Microsoft and the PC world beat. And since cost is no longer an argument, I think that a case could be made for Windows users being more of a Cult than Mac users. Mindlessly following the masses and using out-classed software and hardware, dealing with BSODs on a regular basis, viruses, spyware, malware, etc, etc...

with vista, windows is trying to be more like a mac, not supporting older stuff n e more like they did since ever all the way up to xp. however with vista u can't upgrade your computer hardware more than once or you'll be forced to purchase another vista cd key, THATS BS!

actually, if you can learn linux and be good with it, that may be the best way to go in some cases

Windows users generally "mindlessly follow the masses" because it's what they know. Mac has been smart and tried to convert these people by allowing their produtcs to run Windows Operating Systems. But for the majority of people, who know little about the inner workings of a computer, I don't believe its so much a conscious decision whether to get a Mac or PC - they go with what they know best, not with what works best.
The majority of businesses have gone with PCs because at one point (and arguably still) they're the best product for the money. So when a computer in every home became a reality, most people brought PCs into their home. Windows 95 exploded, and PCs had the edge. Now with Ipods controlling "the masses", people are starting to venture into unknown territory and Mac users are sitting back saying "I told you so".
Either way, because I'm a novice Mac user, I prefer to use my PC for most things. That's not to say I dislike Macs, I'm just inexperienced with them. But I still hold that Mac users behave a little more cult-like in that they really give a shit which they own and thus show incredible devotion to their product... it's not necessarily a bad thing.
