Open Water (Movie)
#1

Has anyone seen Open Water yet? Haven't seen it, looking forward to it though. Just wondering what your thoughts are on it. Here is the link to the trailer:

It's like Phone Booth...a real-time still frame movie. It'll really ride on the strength of the two actors and, unlike Phone Booth, it will also ride on their dialogue since there's more than one lead. I have heard only fairly good to very good things about it though.

Is it really "real-time"?
Just seems weird that the viewer is only stranded with them for an hour or 1-1/2.
My wife and I have seen coming attractions for this movie for over six months and really want to see it.
But wouldn't you know - the week it comes out - here and her girlfriend are on a cruise.
She refused to go see it Friday, the day before she left.
Something about boats and water and stranded that bugged her.

I saw it and loved it. The two teenagers in front of me hated it and walked out about halfway through, most likely due to the fact that it has a miniscule budget, no big name Hollywood actors, no CGI, no big explosions, and no kick-ass pop/punk sountrack to rock out to. It was also shot on digital video, so the picture is kinda grainy. Don't walk into this thing thinking you're gonna see "Jaws 5" or something like that. This movie was made for film nerds like myself. It kind of has a "Blair Witch" thing going for it in that it's what you DON'T see that's truly frightening. You also get a real feeling of dread watching these two people try to deal with this horrifying situation they're in. I thought it was very well done.

a shark movie, oh boy, any movie that depends on an animal to be scary can lick my ass, i don't know how anybody could think this would be or is good, it's a shark AHHHH OH NO!!!!!!!!!! maybe it's because i don't live anywhere near sharks (or maybe it's because sharks don't attack the Irish Wink), or anacondas or crocodiles, or crazy spiders, but i find these kinds of movies to be laughable. now, as far as "scary" movies go, i will most likely go see the new exorcist movie tomorrow.

It is the freakiest movie you'll ever see, especially the ending.....

gimme a break, unless the ending has the shark take off its costume to reveal that it's michael jackson and then they get molested i'm gonna have to disagree with you there.

I can't wait to see it. I've heard great things about it. Like Direwolf said, there are no special effects, all the sharks are real, the actors are in the water with them and the cameraman is leaning over the side of the boat filming it all.

To me the premise of the movie is scary as hell.... come up from a dive expecting to see the dive boat... but all you see is miles of nothing.

I'm gonna check it out this week hopefully.

Don't waste your money. I'm not going to reveal details until more of you have seen it (unless you want to know), but I walked out of the theatre after watching it and feeling angry more than scared... I say bring on the scuba diving.

This thread had been active for two days now and no one's quoted "Sharks" yet?

EDIT: Guess I should read the thread first!

Well we saw it and loved it. Wore on my nerves, thats for sure. If you just put yourself in their situation, make it more personal, it can really freak you out. I know it did for me....anyone else see it yet?

Yeah, I can understand your point but it's not like the first Exorcist movie was scary. I just found it to be stupid and not scary at all. Maybe the shark movie is good, maybe it isn't but I have no interest in seeing the most recent Exorcist movie. How are demon spirits scarier than sharks?

Just saw the movie. Well, not the best movie I've ever seen but not the worst. Wasn't interesting until the midway point. It was alright but nothing special. Good ending though.
